About Urge

We opened our doors on July 30th, 2010, bringing a unique pub experience to the Rancho Bernardo community. So far we have exceeded our wildest expectations in the development of our restaurant; today, we continue our commitment to excellence and hope that our variety shines through in everything we do.

Grant Tondro

 //  General Manager & Proprietor

Grant has nearly 15 years of wine industry experience and comes from a family of restaurant owners. Grant has lived in Rancho Bernardo since 1993 and graduated from Rancho Bernardo High School in 1996. He later obtained his bachelors degree from San Diego State in business and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Grant not only manages the pub, he spends countless hours researching and seeking new beers and wines to keep our lists fresh and exciting.  As a Sommelier, not only did he write the wine list at our sister restaurant, The Barrel Room, for the first few years it was open but he’s been very instrumental with developing our wine program at our newest concept, Brothers’ Provisions.

Zak Higson

 //  Proprietor

Zak and his wife Pavlina live in San Diego on the outskirts of Poway with their two rescue dogs Pinot and Kozmo. As a reformed CPA, Zak worked for a national distributor of security products as their controller and in his very little “free time” works to improve his hockey skills, cycling, and spends time with family. Zak has over 10 years experience in the wine industry and spends much of his time looking for new wines and beers, numerous charity events, and everything financially related at the pub. As if that wasn’t enough on his plate already, Zak now handles all of the day-to-day operations at our newest concept, Brothers’ Provisions.

Nate Higson

 //  Proprietor

Nate is a 15-year veteran in the restaurant business, both corporate chains and private businesses. His other passion is his family, consisting of his beautiful wife Courtney, his sons Tyler and Hunter, and daughter Kylee. When he’s not having fun at work or enjoying family-time Nate enjoys the occasional round of golf and loves to strap on the skates and play some hockey. A Rancho Bernardo High School graduate that has lived in North County for over 20 years, Nate runs the day to day operations at our sister restaurant, The Barrel Room and works hard to make it’s a fun place for his friends and neighbors.
